New clubs and equipment are a great way to improve or enhance your golf game. Golf clubs and equipment covers so much in a few short words. I have included what I think are the most important equipment pieces you should consider. Some will have more of an impact on your game than others, but all together your equipment can be such an important part of your golf game. I am sure we have all seen the improvement on one of our friends game from a new driver. The confidence a player receives by starting off with a nice drive can be priceless. In my case I did decide to help my game by buying new golf clubs. I was playing with 20 year old irons and woods that I do not even remember how old they were. It took me 2 years but I replaced all my golf clubs. The difference for me and my golf game was quite significant. It is hard to say how much it improved my handicap, and I am not going to guess, but it definitely allowed me to play better and help me lower my handicap. I would recommend new golf clubs to anyone. For me, new golf clubs allowed me to improve my game without spending the extra time. The point is, your golf clubs and golf equipment are one way you can improve your game. Golf clubs can be just one piece of the puzzle, in helping you with lowering your golf handicap.

Golf Clubs

: Drivers
: Woods
: Irons
: Wedges
: Putters

Drivers and Woods

The golf driver can be such an important part of our golf game. This golf club will setup almost every par 4 and par 5 we will play. The woods are some of the least used golf clubs in your bag. If money is a concern, then the non-driver woods should be purchased last. If this is the case, then let us focus on getting the most benefits for our money. Drivers on the other hand are used on most holes and have a big impact on your score. A new driver can have a huge impact on your game. Drivers and woods usually come in a set, of a driver, a 3 wood and a 5 wood. If you look in my bag, then you will notice that my driver is not in the same set as my woods.

Irons and Wedges

Your irons will be used on every hole you will play. This tells us that of course our irons are an important part of our game. Good iron play can make up for a mediocre driving and help assist with your short game. New irons can immediately improve your golf scores. Although purchasing new irons can be the most expensive piece of your equipment and golf game puzzle. This was the first action of improvement that I chose and probably the most immediate improvement in my game. I chose to have my whole set of irons the same set of golf clubs. You can buy your wedges separate, but I was happy with my set of irons and decided on using the wedges that match my irons. When I look once again to improve my golf game, I will most certainly start with a new set of irons. Irons are also an important piece of our golf clubs.

Putters

For one golf club, the putter can have the most impact on your golf score. If you figure that it should normally take you 2 putts for every hole, then your putter and your putting is nearly half of your whole game. Your putting can make up for so many poor areas in a golf game. Poor putting also can hurt a golf game quicker than any other area. It is probably the most important part of any golf game, so you must find the putter that you feel is right for you. For me, I found and like a fairly lighter weight putter. This might hurt me in the longer putts, but I feel that the putts I am truly concerned about making are the shorter ones. With the speed of most greens getting faster with every year, then I feel I want and need a light weighted putter.

Golf Equipment

: Bags
: Shoes
: Gloves
: Balls

Bags

Your golf bag is not going to truly help your golf game. It might allow you to have more equipment with you while you are playing and this could help you play better golf. I always had many different things inside my golf bag. I always have plenty of golf balls and tees, and golf gloves. My bag is fairly big so I have room for a sweater, hat and thick gloves for when the weather turns sour in the middle of the round. Ok, I confess, you can usually find some of my favorite beverages in there too.

Shoes

Your shoes are a more important piece of equipment than most give credit. First of all you must have your feet solid as you swing. You can not allow your feet to be moving while you are swinging. Your golf shoe will definitely help you control this. I feel keeping my feet completely dry while playing as being very important. You can buy a nice water proof shoe to help with this too. If you play golf in cold and unpredictable weather, then you will most likely know what I am talking about. I always have a nice comfortable pair of golf shoes that will keep my feet dry in almost every weather condition.

Gloves

Golf gloves are definitely optional. Some players need them and others simply do not need them. I am a player who does like to use a golf glove. I simply like the extra grip I get when I use a golf glove. This is why I always have a few golf gloves in my bag. For me, my golf glove is a very important piece of equipment.

Balls

Golf balls have come so far over the years. The golf balls made today are so very good. I have used many kinds and brands of golf balls and for my preference I like to use a ball that has more spin. More spin will do a number of things. First more spin will generally allow the ball to travel less distance, but the more spin will allow the ball to stop much more quickly once it hits the green. With more spin, I lost some distance but this allowed me to have the ball stop quicker on my approach shots to the green. I always felt I should have a good ball, maybe not the most expensive ball made, but a very good brand. I never put the highest value on my ball and maybe it is an area of golf I should look closer at.

The disadvantage would be the cost of purchasing new equipment. Like so many things, golf clubs and golf equipment can be quite expensive.
