Golf Tips Driving - Give more care to tee placement
Most recreational players simply move the ball as far forward as the tee markers will allow, and generally in the middle of the tee box. That is not always the best choice.
If your tendency is to slice or fade the ball, position your tee ball on the right side of the tee box and aim left of your target. If you usually hook or draw the ball, position your tee ball on the left side of the tee box and aim right of your target.
By properly positioning your tee shot, you will increase your chances of keeping the ball in play.
Remember that the rules of golf allow you to set your tee ball two club-lengths in depth from the tee markers. You might find better footing -- and hit a better tee shot -- by moving back in the tee box a bit.
And although your ball must be placed between the tee markers, there is no rule requiring you to stand within the tee markers. When the situation calls for it, make full use of the tee area, even if you have to stand outside the markers
Golf Tips Driving - Tempo
Hit with the same tempo you use for a seven iron.
Golf Tips Driving - Relaxed
Keep body relaxed and grip soft.
Golf Tips Driving - Grip Pressure
Grip the club as hard as possible and take a few practice swings—consider this pressure a 10. Now, grip the club and swing hard with only the thumbs and forefingers of both hands—consider this pressure a one. Then, take your normal grip and concentrate on keeping the pressure at four or less. Once you’ve determined what the correct pressure feels like, make your only goal during the swing to concentrate on maintaining that exact grip pressure from setup to finish.
By concentrating solely on maintaining the correct grip pressure throughout your driver swing, you will not only alleviate overall body tension, but you should find you are more able to swing freely without being encumbered by too many swing thoughts. In addition, you will be more aware of what’s going on with your body and your swing due to the lack of tightness in your hands and arms.
Golf Tips Driving - Look At Your Finish
If you take the time to study, analyze and critique your finish position, you will develop an idea of where your swing needs to go—not to mention increase the likelihood of actually making it happen.
Some of the benchmarks of the proper finish are:
: Being in good balance
: Weight forward on your left side
: Knees touching
: Belt buckle facing the target
: Club to the left of the left shoulder
: Right arm extended and right wrist flat
Golf Tips Driving - Change set-up for distance
Here are three things you can do in your set-up to increase distance with your driver:
Tee the ball higher: If you swing the club on a good, inside-to-out path, you will produce a draw, a shot that moves right-to-left and gives you the maximum distance. It's easier to draw the ball when it is teed higher.
Play the ball farther forward in your stance: Try playing the ball off your left big toe. You will catch the ball slightly on the upswing, giving you more lift and carry, and the ball will tend to have more topspin, which will give you more roll when the ball finally hits the ground.
Take a wider stance: This promotes a wider swing arc, which allows you to generate more clubhead speed. It also gives you greater stability, so when you take a robust swing, you won't lose your balance on your follow-through.
