Introduction To Ohio

This Is Where I Come From Ohio !!!

I was born and raised in Ohio, which became the 17th state of The United States of America in 1803. Ohio is in the North Eastern part of the United States. Ohio is surrounded by Pennsylvania to the east, Kentucky and West Virginia to the south, Indiana to the west, and Michigan and Lake Erie, which separates Canada from Ohio, to the north. Ohio is a state with many different looks about it. The flat area to the west compared to the rolling hills and almost mountain areas of the south and east. The state has much farm land and also many cities and its suburbs.

I was born in Akron, which is in the North Eastern part of the state. Akron has claim to fame as in the nickname, The Rubber Capital of the World. This part of the state has very few farms. Northeastern Ohio has a number of cities with the typical Ohio look of many shopping areas, malls, restaurants and the endless fast food places.

Ohio has a very interesting and unique four seasons. The winters are just hard enough to give you every kind of winter condition you might want. The summers are normally nice and hot and very dry, quite the opposite of the winter time. The spring is a welcome relief after normally a long winter. The fall can be almost magical at times. The turning of the leaves is something to see. During the Indian Summer, which occurs almost every year at the same time, the leaves have turned to their bright red, yellow and orange colors. It is truly a mix of four completely different times of the year, with none of the four coming close to the other. The sun does disappear behind the clouds for almost 6 months a year, but where else can you get such a variety in your weather.

Ohio has a very strong Native American Indian heritage. Many of the cities and landmarks of the Akron area, and all of Ohio, originate from American Indian Tribes who once lived in the area. Even the area baseball team is named after the Indians, the Cleveland Indians.

One of our, mine and Maggies, favorite places to spend some time, is the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. The park lies between Akron and Cleveland. The park was created in 1974 to protect the area from the expansion of Akron and Cleveland. The park now has more deer than you might even believe. The last trip we made through by car, we counted more deer than we could even keep track of. The park is a valley of beautiful areas of woods and walk paths through early Ohio history. It is a beautiful place where time has stood still.

One of my best memories of Ohio will always be memories of the sports and how much it influenced my life. As a kid growing up, I played all the normal Ohio sports, such as Football, Baseball and Basketball. I still keep a watchful eye on local sports teams. The Cleveland Browns (Football), the Cleveland Indians (Baseball) and the Cleveland Cavaliers (Basketball). Of course my golfing memories are irreplaceable. The Akron Area has more than 80 golf courses. I can not say I played them all, but I did not miss many. I played golf for about 35 years in the area. I can not wait to start on creating my new irreplaceable golf memories in The Netherlands.

There are many more things I could talk about with Ohio, but my greatest achievements and memories have to be with my kids and family. I have many new family members here in the Netherlands and someday we hope to have everyone from Ohio meet everyone from The Netherlands, our now very international family.

We would love to invite you to come to Ohio and see all the special things that make Ohio what it is. You can not compare an Ohio autumn to anywhere you have been. The summers make Ohio the perfect place to play, of course, GOLF.
