Illinois Golf Courses : Boone County
Boone County, Illinois, was organized from Winnebago County on March 3, 1836, being named in honor of Kentucky's pioneer, Daniel Boone. However, its present boundaries were not gained until May 4, 1843, when a mile-wide strip was annexed to the western border from Winnebago County. In recent years as the area's economy improved and Belvidere and Boone County began experiencing growth pressures from both the Rockford and Chicago metropolitan areas, Growth Dimensions recognized the need to set new economic development objectives and strategies to address these trends as the community moves into the new millenium. Growth Dimensions has initiated two of the new activities recommended in the Action Plan: Investigation of the feasibility of development of a New Uses Agricultural Technology Park and Tollway Station Point. The Technology Park would provide a place for science based technology companies to create new industrial uses for agricultural materials, new crops, and new uses for crop residues. Farm production, product manufacturing and assembly would be carried out in the park. Tollway Station Point would be a high-density multi-modal transportation center that includes a proposed new interchange, a commuter rail station and a park and ride facility. Beaver Creek Golf Course is a nine hole, parkland style track designed by architect Gordon Cunningham. The fairways are lined by young trees and the course is relatively easy to walk. The medium-sized greens are undulating and fast. Water comes into play on five holes.

This course is located in a very scenic area. The greens are small and the fairways are wide open. This course opens on Monday at noon. Groups of five are allowed to play during the month of April and after Labor Day.

The Golf Club at Timber Pointe is a semi private facility featuring a championship, 19-hole golf course designed by architect Mike Schulz, and opened for play April 2003. The course is a links style layout, with plenty of mounding in the fairways that will offer some challenging lies. A few fairways are tree lined and all are bordered with a standard cut of rough. The undulating greens vary in size and roll fast. Water comes into play on a few holes, and there is ample bunkering throughout the course.
