Illinois Golf Courses : Henry County
Henry County was under Knox County until 1837. It was organized as a county on March 2, 1837. George Brandenburg settled at what became Dayton (now Dayton Corners housing sub division, near Colona) near the Rock River. This area was a stage coach stop. The town was laid out earlier in October 1836. A group of Protestant ministers organized the Connecticut Association to settle the Midwest when they heard Catholic settlers were moving in that direction. Illinois Golf Courses Comments:
This difficult course was built on rolling terrain and features many trees lining its fairways. This course plays very long and can prove to be a substantial challenge to the average golfer. The semi-hard greens are quick and smooth with plenty of breaks, and there's seldom a straight putt. The course is fairly easy to walk, but does have some hills and elevation changes. Water comes into play on six holes, and there are quite a few sand bunkers in the design. The layout offers excellent variety, and gets quite a bit of wind adding to the challenge because it's in an open area and doesn't have many large trees.

This course has many trees and sand bunkers protecting its greens. The tree-lined fairways are fairly flat and easy to walk. The undulating greens are large, fast, and easy to three putt. The signature hole is 10, a 425-yard, par 4, requiring two shots over water in order to reach the green. The wind comes into play on a daily basis, and water hazards come into play on five holes, 5, 6, 10, 11, and 12.

This course provides enough variety of terrain to challenge the most advanced golfer. The fairways vary in width and the number of trees that line them. The fast greens are undulating and the terrain is hilly. The signature hole is 8, a 150-yard, par 3, requiring a tee shot over a pond to the green; this hole features the only water hazard on the course. There are additional sets of tees that can be used when playing an eighteen hole round.
