Illinois Golf Courses : Morgan County
Morgan County was named for Daniel Morgan, who was an early soldier in the American Colonies, during Pontiac's War and Dunmore's War. During the Revolution, he served as colonel of a Virginia regiment, then became a Brigadier General. He commanded the (The Rifle Brigade), serving with distinction at Quebec, Saratoga, and the Cowpens. He commanded the Virginia Militia in the suppression of the Whiskey Insurrection of 1794 in Pennsylvania. He was a representative from Virginia from 1797-99. The first settlers began arriving in Morgan County around 1818 but it was not until 1823 that the county was formally organized. Jacksonville was laid out on a 40 acre tract in 1825 and was chosen as the Morgan County seat. Named for General Andrew Jackson, the city was incorporated in 1867. This is a challenging course that has no hidden hazards. The fairways are tree lined and wide. The terrain is flat, yet be aware of the ponds and sand bunkers that come into play throughout the course.

This facility has both an eighteen hole course and a nine hole course. The Links Course and the Nichols Park Course were both built upon gentle, rolling terrain and feature numerous sand bunkers. Windy conditions dramatically change the character of these courses, so you shouldn't get tired of playing here. The Nichols Park Course offers discounts for juniors everyday. The Links Course only allows discounts for seniors on weekdays.

Illinois Golf Courses Comments:
This challenging, executive-length course is situated on the top of a ridge, with a view of the town of Jacksonville. With generous, rolling fairways, the course is ideal for beginners. The plush, mildly undulating greens are always well-maintained, which makes for an enjoyable round of golf. Hole 9, a 155-yard, par 3, plays from an elevated tee to a raised green protected on three sides by sand bunkers. The fairway is bordered on the right side by one of three ponds that come into play. Water comes into play on six of nine holes.
