Illinois Golf Courses : Moultrie County
Moultrie County was formed in 1843 out of Shelby and Coles Counties. It is named for South Carolina General, and later Governor, William Moultrie. General Moultrie defended Sullivan's Island, South Carolina from British attack in 1776. The site was later renamed Fort Moultrie. Nearby Jasper County was named for Sgt. William Jasper, another hero of the defense of Sullivan's Island. It was not until eight years had elapsed from the time when Illinois was admitted into the Union as a state, that the first white man erected his cabin of rough, logs within the present boundaries of Moultrie county. The honor of first settling in the territory comprising Moultrie county, belongs to John Whitley. He with his wife and sons John, Sharp, Mills, Randall, William, Josiah, his son-in-law Samuel Linley, and two or three daughters, settled at the point of timber which has ever since been known as Whitley's Point, in the fall of 1826. Illinois Golf Courses Comments:
This course is very challenging, due to the variety of hazards that come into play on all of the holes. Wind plays a factor on several other holes. The fairways are undulating with numerous mature trees, out-of-bounds and water hazards lining the edges. A creek can be found meandering through the design and coming into play on three of the nine holes. The greens are large and relatively flat, and the course is very well-irrigated.

This course has a relaxing atmosphere. The terrain is flat with small greens and wide fairways. Water hazards come into play on four holes, plus there are no sand bunkers on the course.
