Festivals, outdoor recreation, performing arts series, the list goes on and on as visitors to Richland County choose from many activities to enjoy. The centerpieces of Olney’s attractions are their famous White Squirrels. The loveable creatures can be found at many places throughout the city but are most prevalent in the older residential neighborhoods with mature trees and near the city-owned lakes. East Fork Lake, north of Olney offers outdoor recreation for the whole family. Fishing, water sports and a picnic area provide for a wonderful day on the lake. A new brochure highlights the features of this recreational jewel. The Olney City Park is home to more than White Squirrels. The Cummins Municipal Band has performed summer concerts for over 100 years in the park and will continue this year (see their schedule on the Calendar of Events Pages). The Richland County Fair is held each July as well as the Olney Fall Festival of Arts and Crafts each September. The park wraps up the year each holiday season with the Olney Christmas Light Display. Thousands and thousands of lights adorn the park as well as animated cartoon characters and dazzling light displays. The display is lit from Thanksgiving night through New Years night. Bicycle racers of all ages will enjoy the Olney Chamber of Commerce Bicycle race each September. Various bicycle races for the family and individuals from 4 years and up are held followed by professional racers competing in timed criterion races.
