Indiana Golf Courses Boone County Up until 1828, Miami Indians occupied the northwest corner of the county by stipulation from the government. The Indians lived, hunted, and traded for many years until they were run out of the area in 1834. The Indians covered Sugarcreek Township, two-thirds of Washington, half of Jefferson and five sections of Center Township, in all about 52,000 acres. Dating back to the early 1820's there was unbroken wilderness, no roads or mills, deep-tangled brush and vines, with a good portion of the area covered with water. Some of the first pioneers came to Boone County in 1823 or 1824. They came principally from Kentucky, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania. There were many settlers that arrived in the area around the same time. Boone County has a population of approximately 50,000 (2004 estimate from U.S. Census Bureau) residents and is located approximately 25 miles northwest of Indianapolis. The population is growing as businesses locate in an area close to major interstates, and newcomers select the area as a residential site and work in the nearby cities of Indianapolis and Lafayette. The two largest communities are Lebanon and Zionsville. Lebanon, the county seat, is known for its beautiful courthouse square and the (Back to the 50s) festival held in the Fall. Zionsville is located in the rapidly growing southeast portion of the county and is famous for its quaint village-like atmosphere, shops, and brick main street. Let’s see the Indiana Golf Courses in Boone County.

Indiana Golf Courses Comments:
This course, which opened in 1996, has a variety of holes that will test all skill levels. The course was designed by a student from Purdue University. Hole 1 is the most picturesque with tall hickory trees lining the narrow fairway. The course earned its name from a large hickory that bends over beside the green on this hole. Hole 2, a 520-yard, par 5, requires a tee shot into prevailing westerly winds, and Hole 3 is a short par 3, measuring 135 yards and requiring a tee shot over the edge of a lake. There are no sand bunkers on the course at this time.

Indiana Golf Courses Comments:
This links-style course offers rolling topography with a beautiful creek winding throughout the facility. Tall fescue borders most of the course. There is an abundance of sand bunkers sprinkled in the layout, however, they are not deep and are more of a nuisance than a penalty. A favorite hole is 13, a 481-yard, par 4, which has a narrow entry to the green. A creek skirts the right side and rear of the green and there is a slight dogleg left fairway. Bunkers surround both the green and the fairway.

Zionsville Golf Course

Address:
10799 East County Road 550 S
Zionsville, IN 46077

Holes: 9
Par: 72
Rating: 69.0
Slope: 118

Indiana Golf Courses Comments:
This predominantly flat course does have a few hills that can cause uneven lies. Water hazards come into play on some holes. Even though the fairways are tree lined, they still afford generous landing areas. The signature hole is 5, a 355-yard, par 4, because it requires a tee shot around a large Cotton tree in the middle of the fairway, then an approach shot over water to a double-tiered green.
