Indiana Golf Courses : Morgan County
Morgan County was formed in 1822. It was named for Gen. Daniel Morgan, who defeated the British at the Battle of Cowpens in the Revolutionary War. In the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, mineral springs in Martinsville gave rise to several spas, and the nickname of the Martinsville High School athletic teams has subsequently been the Artesians. Settlers in Morgan County in the early nineteenth century came predominantly from southern states. The Mooresville area and surrounding communities received large numbers of southern Quakers, driven to migrate because of their opposition to slavery. Paul Hadley, a Mooresville resident, was the designer of the current Indiana flag, as well as a locally prominent water color artist in the early twentieth century. This course features tree-lined fairways and extremely small greens that are fast. The front nine fairways are more narrow than those on the back nine. The signature hole is 8, a 397-yard, par 4, requiring a tee shot down a bottle-necked fairway lined with trees.

This suburban, links-style course is built on rolling terrain, with plenty of fescue and heather rough. The sculpted fairways provide generous landing areas, while the ample greens feature moderate undulation. Large, dramatically shaped sand bunkers are located throughout the course and augment an already challenging layout. Hole 2 is a 160-yard, par 3, playing over a pond and to a well-protected, tiered green.

This hilly course has tree-lined fairways and small greens. The signature hole is 18, a 399-yard, par 4, with a dogleg right fairway that requires shots over a gully and through some trees. Water hazards (a creek and a pond) come into play on six holes.
