Indiana Golf Courses Steuben County Steuben County is nestled in the Northeastern corner of Indiana boarding Michigan and Ohio. The county has long been known for it’s 101 natural lakes making it a vacation wonderland. Dubbed as Northern Indiana Lakes Country, residents and non-residents alike can enjoy many abundant water activities. Other popular activities include camping, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and visiting the local winery and amusement park. Steuben County was named after Baron Frederick von Steuben, a soldier who served under King Frederick of Prussia. The county, which originally was part of LaGrange County to the west, was settled in 1834 in what is now the town of Orland. The town was established as the Vermont Settlement because many of the first settlers were from the state of Vermont. Before Orland was settled, the area was a hunting ground for the Potawatomi Indians. There are many recreational activities available all year around in Steuben County. In the summer time the activity of choice is the lakes. Boating, fishing, and camping are a big part of the attraction to our County during the summer. We have families come from far away to enjoy our natural lakes every weekend. During the winter months there are several things to do as well such as cross-country skiing and the toboggon slide at Pokagon State Park. There is 22 miles of snowmobile trails to enjoy and you will see a lot of ice fisherman on the frozen lakes. Let’s see the Indiana Golf Courses in Steuben County.
