The fairways are fairly flat, but there is an occasional hill which will cause uneven lies. The course is open, so the wind is a big factor at times. In the future, this course will be much more challenging because the newly-planted trees will have matured. The greens are undulating, but only the first green is elevated.

This course features some tree-lined and some wide open fairways. In addition, water hazards come into play on thirteen holes. There are many sand bunkers incorporated into the course's design. The undulating greens are usually in excellent condition.

The people who love this course play to all levels, and like it because it's an experience, not just a round. The course was designed by Harry Bowers, who learned at the knee of Robert Trent Jones. He cut this emerald out of limestone, trimmed by hardwood and cedar, crafting each fairway separately over 400 acres. And now, play here is controlled. There are few, if any, waits. Each group of golfers is in their own game, unaware of any other golfers on the course except the players ahead or behind. They have four tees and therefore, four choices of challenges on each hole.

This eighteen hole golf course is perhaps one of the most dramatically-scenic Michigan golf courses. It is set high on a bluff overlooking Waishkey Bay, with views including St. Mary's river, Great Lakes Ships and the Laurentian Shield in Canada. Water comes into play on thirteen holes, with eleven holes offering incredible lake views. The greens are spacious, and gently rolling. The fairways are forgiving because there are few sand and water carries.
