Michigan Golf Courses Jackson County Jackson County, named for President Andrew Jackson, is located in the central/southern portion of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula. In the late 1820’s, settlers from New York moved there. Prior to that, it was inhabited by Pottawatomi, Shawnee, Kickapoo, Sac and Fox Indians. Horace Blackman is the father of the county and the city of Jackson, where in 1829, he built the first log cabin. A township to the north is named for him. Growth began with a decision to build a walled prison, completed in 1838, at that time the world’s largest. The Michigan Central Railroad arrived in 1841, escalating growth, leading to the discovery and production of coal mining. Sandstone was also discovered in the area, and a diverse economy soon developed around the city of Jackson, while the outlying areas developing agricultural production in the areas of corn, oats, onions and potatoes. There are so many Michigan golf courses in the county. Jackson County’s countryside consists of rolling farmlands dotted by many lakes, with a significant portion of the northeast corner of the county part of state forest land. Recreational opportunities abound, including the Sharonville State Wildlife Area and Cambridge Park near Brooklyn. Jackson also offers a variety of cultural activities including the Cascades Waterfall Park, opened evening hours Memorial through Labor Days. Many of the rural towns have retained a turn-of-the-century look, with well-preserved buildings and decorative landscaping , a pleasant Sunday drive. This tight course was built within a wooded area. The well-maintained greens are fairly level. Water hazards (a creek and ponds) come into play on two holes. The ladies tee off from the same set of tees as the men.

This facility features a regulation eighteen hole course, plus a nine hole executive course. The Cascades Eighteen Course was built on rolling terrain and features many trees lining its fairways. Hole 17, a 388-yard, par 4, has been written about in Golf Digest.

This facility has a regulation eighteen hole course and a regulation nine hole course. On the front nine of the Clark Lake Course (the eighteen hole course) there are three greens that are triple-tiered. The fairways are wide, but lined by trees and bordered by a standard cut of rough. Water hazards (a total of twelve ponds) come into play on more than half the holes. The Executive Course is similar in design to the Clark Lake Course, but on a smaller scale.

This very scenic course offers many panoramic views and is one of Jackson County's most beautiful courses. It features tall hills and fast, rolling greens. The fairways are flat, and water hazards come into play on some holes.

This club has three nine hole courses that are played in three eighteen hole combinations. The club originally had eighteen holes, made up of the Woods Course and the Pines Course, and later added another nine, the Marsh Course. Members play the original eighteen holes more frequently. The Marsh Course gave the club some holes with water in play. The old courses are mostly flat, while the new course has hills, ditches and elevated tees and greens. All twenty-seven holes have tree-lined fairways.

The eighteen hole course is comprised of the new front nine holes and the original back nine. The greens on this course are large and undulating. The signature hole is 18, a 464-yard, par 5, which has water running down both sides of the fairway and a pond in front of the green. Water hazards, in the form of ponds, come into play on the first four holes. The original nine hole course has small greens that are fast. Water comes into play on three holes.

There are four nine hole courses here that are played as separate nines. The courses were cut out of the woods and both the courses and the woods are home to a variety of wildlife. The White Course is the most challenging because of the thick tree-lined fairways, sand bunkers and the water hazards that come into play on several holes. The Maize Course was built on flat terrain and has open fairways. This is a great course for beginners. The Blue and White courses are the intermediate courses.
