Michigan Golf Courses Kent County Kent County was named after James Kent, a prominent legal authority who served as Chief Justice in the New York Supreme Court and as Chancellor of the New York Court of Chancery, (1814-1823). Author of Commentaries on American Law, Kent is best known for introducing English equity law into cases he tried. Kent County was first settled in the 1820s and organized as a self-governing body in 1836. It began to flourish in the late 1800s during the lumber boom. Strategically positioned on the Grand River, the largest river in the state, with rapids over a mile long, it was a major source of power and distribution for the region. Eventually, the area became a diverse manufacturing center particularly known for furniture by the mid 1900’s. Today Kent County has a rich cultural heritage with several colleges, museums, and sports arenas, including the home of the Grand Rapids White Caps and the recently formed Griffins hockey team. It is also the home of Gerald R. Ford, 38th President of the United States, the only president never elected. Kent County has many great Michigan golf courses. Kent County retains its reputation as a successful economic center, and is respected for its creativity in community planning and business development. Let’s see the nice Michigan golf courses in Kent County, Michigan.

This is a wonderful course to play. The terrain is predominantly flat, but there is some mounding which might cause an uneven lie. Most of the fairways on the front nine were much wider than those on the back nine. This is a long hitters dream course. The fairways are tree lined, so as long as you avoid them you should have no trouble scoring well. However, on the back nine, the course more than makes up for the relative ease of playing the front nine. By placing fairway bunkers and ponds in strategic locations, golfers are forced to either fade or draw the ball from off the tee.
