Michigan Golf Courses Leelanau County Leelanau, an Indian word meaning: (Delight of Life), certainly reflects what can be seen when traveling this peninsula, one of Michigan’s gems. This name, suggested by Henry Schoolcraft, Michigan’s Indian agent during the mid 1800’s, aptly fits the feeling one gets when looking over the pristine waters, clear blue sky and forested coastlines of Grand Traverse Bay and Lake Michigan. Leelanau County was officially established in 1863 with Northport as the County Seat until 1882, when it was transferred to Leland. The lighthouse, at the peninsula’s northernmost point, (currently a museum open in the summer), was first constructed in 1858 to guide freighters through the Manitou Passage, and marks the entrance to the Grand Traverse Bay. Leelanau County’s scenery is hard to beat: from the Sleeping Bear Dunes just north of Empire, to inland Lake Leelanau, to the calm waters of Omena and Suttons Bays, there is plenty to do and many Michigan golf courses. Not to mention the cherry orchards, or taking the summer ferry from Leland to North Manitou Island. Leelanau County is truly a must-see for anyone who has an interest in Michigan, no matter what season of the year. Let’s see the Michigan golf courses in Leelanau County, Michigan.

Holes: 18
Par: 72
Rating: 67.3
Slope: 112
Status: Public
Season: May 1 thru October 31

Michigan Golf Courses Comments:
Although shorter, the back nine is still harder for most golfers, thanks to its tight, tree-lined fairways, which were built on predominantly flat terrain. However, there are some hills that can cause uneven lies. The greens are medium-sized and guarded by sand bunkers. Only one pond comes into play on one hole.

The Homestead Resort

Address:
Wood Ridge Road
Glen Arbor, MI 49636

Phone: 231-334-5210
Holes: 9
Par: 27
Rating: N/A
Slope: N/A
Status: Resort
Season: May 1 thru October 30

Michigan Golf Courses Comments:
This nine hole resort course is unique in that the golf facility shares the same area as the ski layout during their respective seasons. The golf layout is hilly in design, with a large amount of trees. There are great elevation changes overall, which places an emphasis on club selection. With the severe elevation disparity there are breathtaking views of surrounding Lake Michigan.

Michigan Golf Courses Comments:
This course's fairways were built on rolling terrain. The back nine is more wooded and narrower than the front nine. There is one pond that comes into play on two holes. The course has many mature maple, birch, oak, and beech trees lining its fairways. The tee boxes and greens are elevated, and about twelve greens are well bunkered.

Season: April 1 thru October 31

Michigan Golf Courses Comments:
This resort offers two regulation eighteen hole courses, the Stevenson Course and the new Lakeview Course, which opened in 1997 and was designed by Arnold Palmer. The front nine on the Stevenson Course is wide open, but the back nine fairways are tree lined. The entire course was built on a hill. Water hazards (nine ponds) come into play on seven holes. All of the tee boxes are elevated to some degree, and some of the greens are elevated.
