Marquette County is located along the southern shores of Lake Superior in Michigan’s central Upper Peninsula. It is Michigan’s largest county in geographical size, covering 1841 square miles. It was named after Father Marquette, the famous Jesuit missionary who came here during the late 1600’s. The terrain varies from flat and swampy to a rocky mountain range in the north, filled with iron ore, discovered early by fur traders and which helped supply the Union during the Civil War. Today, iron ore is still mined here, a major contributor to the area’s economy: Giant ore ships load from railroad cars on the north side of Marquette, the county seat. Other major contributions to the economy include paper manufacturing and tourism. There are many outdoor recreational opportunities year round, including fishing, Michigan golf courses, boating and canoeing, hiking, snowmobiling and two-trackin. This links style track features rolling, tree lined fairways. The greens are large (averaging 6,500 square feet) and some are multi tiered. Water comes into play on one hole, the 195-yard, par 3, 5. The course plays from 4,878 to 6,375-yards and there are four sets of tees to accommodate all skill levels. This course is home to the (world's largest putting green), located on the ninth hole, a 540-yard, par 5.

This course has a front nine that is flat and a back that is hilly. There is one pond that comes into play on two holes. Hole 15, a 386-yard, par 4, overlooks Lake Superior from its tee box. The greens are undulating and well bunkered.

This extremely scenic course was built on rolling hills and is home to an abundance of wildlife. The fairways vary from being lined with Jack pine trees to being wide open. The somewhat undulating greens are medium to fast in speed. There are no water hazards, but there are several sand bunkers incorporated into the course's design.

Michigan Golf Courses Comments:
This course has a wooded, isolated back nine which is tight, but not difficult. The course is very well-maintained. The fairways are narrow and tree-lined on the back nine and rather open on the front nine. There are ponds that come into play on holes 1, 3, 8 and another pond comes into play on holes 12, and 14. The greens on the front nine are of medium size and on the back nine they are a little bigger.
