Welcome to Montmorency County, Home of Michigan’s Elk Herd. Montmorency County is located in Michigan’s great (Up-North) in the northeast section of the Lower Peninsula. It was named after Count Montmorency, a valiant fighter for the Colonies in the Revolutionary War. It was first platted in 1840 and officially was organized in 1881.
The county seat is located at Atlanta, which is in the center of the county at the junction of M-33 and M-32. Montmorency County remains one of the more remote and untouched areas of Michigan, with over one third of it belonging to the Thunder Bay River State Forest, which contain the headwaters of Thunder Bay River, a fly-fisherman's paradise.
The famous Michigan Elk herd roams here, about five to six hundred strong. The area also contains many beautiful lakes, including Clear Lake just north of Atlanta, which includes a state park. Two other prominent communities include the resort area of Lewiston, situated on Twin Lake, and Hillman, situated on the Thunder Bay River, at the County’s eastern border. There are a few nice Michigan golf courses in the county. If you like the great outdoors, recreational opportunities abound in Montmorency County, any time of the year. This course is best known for the vast amount of wetlands incorporated into its design. At least five of the eighteen holes have wetlands coming into play. In addition, many of the slightly sloping greens are well bunkered. The terrain varies between flat and hilly, and there is a standard cut of rough defining the borders of the fairways. The design offers the golfer a variety of well groomed, contoured holes. Sculpted out of Northern Michigan woodlands, Elk Ridge is home to some of Michigan's largest elk herds.

This resort has four outstanding eighteen hole courses that are well manicured and a challenge for all skill levels. The Reflections Course has water hazards coming into play on eight holes, and its tree-lined fairways are quite hilly. The greens are undulating and some are elevated. There is an abundance of wildlife living on and around the courses.

This scenic course is quite playable and appealing for all skill levels of golfer. The course, built on rolling terrain, was carved from a mature forest. In addition, a thick cut of rough borders all the fairways. Water hazards or marshlands come into play on many holes, so shot accuracy is vital.
