Michigan Golf Courses Muskegon County Muskegon County is named after the Muskegon River, Michigan’s largest. The name means: (River of Marshes). Long inhabited by Ottawa and Potawatomi Indians, it was first discovered by French fur trappers in the 1600’s. Rich in white pine, this area was developed during the turn-of-the-century lumber boom, at one point containing over 47 sawmills on Muskegon Lake, a 12 square mile body of water located between the Muskegon River and Lake Michigan. Following the lumber era, the county continued diverse economic growth including paper and cement manufacturing, production of chemicals, engines, motors and even bowling equipment. Today, Muskegon County has retained its economic diversity and has become a major metropolitan center. It also is a major producer of agricultural products, ( wheat, corn, dairying and livestock). Its clean, sandy beaches along the Lake Michigan coastline, as well as the many fishing and water sport opportunities inland, make it a popular spot for tourists. There are many nice Michigan golf courses in the county. Its fine festivals stand out from the rest, including the July Air Show, one of the best in the nation. Finding something to do in Muskegon County is not difficult. Let’s see the Michigan golf courses in Muskegon County, Michigan.
