Oceana County is located on Michigan’s western coastline, approximately half-way up the state. Organized in 1855, it was named after its long shoreline on lake Michigan. The first known white settlement was a saw mill site built in 1849 at the mouth of Whiskey Creek. The county grew during the lumber era, with the development of Pentwater, Shelby, and Hart, the county seat. When the lumber boom came to a halt, farmers found the area an excellent place for orchards. Today, it prospers, holding the second largest fruit tree acreage in the state. It is also known as the asparagus capital of the world. Tourism plays a vital part along the county’s coastline. Pentwater is a major summer resort, as is the Little Sauble Point area, with Silver Lake and the sand dunes, one of the few places in the nation offering first class dune schooner rides to view the pristine sandy coastline along the Big Lake. Inland, many recreational spots abound in the Manistee National Forest, which dots the county. There are some great Michigan golf courses in the county. There is also great canoeing and fishing along the White River beginning at Hesperia. For sightseeing, fruit picking, or just plain outdoor fun, Oceana County is where you want to be. This executive course was built on rolling terrain and was cut out of thick wooded areas. The back nine was carved out of a fruit orchard. Even though the greens are fast and large, they are relatively flat, so if you get the speeds down you shouldn't have any problems putting well. There is water that comes into play on a couple of holes on the back nine.

This course features ponds coming into play on five holes. This facility provides both a scheduled ladies' day and men's day; contact the pro shop for more information. The scorecard doesn't show handicaps for individual holes. Golden Sands does not sell alcohol but allows players to bring their own onto the course.

Grand View Golf Course is an eighteen hole, par 71 track with dramatic elevation changes and rolling fairways. This course features an island green on the par 3, 18th hole. The large greens are undulating and fast. Water comes into play on two holes.

Although the course is somewhat short, it is quite a challenge for the average player. The fairways are narrow, some are lined with maturing trees and some are wide open. Water hazards do come into play on a few holes, and sand bunkers do come into play on eight holes. The small greens are sloped and very fast. A solid short game is the key to scoring well on this course.

This course was spread across 300 acres of sand dunes, cranberry bogs, tall pines, and miniature oak and beech trees. The greens vary in size depending on the length of each hole. The short holes have small-sized greens, and the long holes have large greens. There are 80-foot drops and steep ravines that will test your abilities.
