Michigan Golf Courses : Sanilac County
Sanilac County is located in the Thumb of Michigan on the west shore of Lake Huron, two hours drive from Michigan's main metropolitan areas. The county covers 972 square miles or some 622,000 acres of some of the richest farmland in the Midwest. Some say the name (Sanilac) means (without lake) and it's true that Sanilac County hasn't one natural lake. However, the Black River runs through the entire county from north to south and 40 miles of Lake Huron shoreline forms the eastern boundry of the county. There are some challenging Michigan golf courses in the county. This unique region offers many interesting sights. Native Americans carved a massive stone depicting early hunters, symbols and animals and it can be seen at the Sanilac County Petrogylphs in the northern part of the county. The Sanilac County Underwater Preserve is 163 square miles and protects ships dating as far back as 1864, a treasure trove for divers. Let’s see the Michigan golf courses in Sanilac County, Michigan.

This is a challenging but fair course built on rolling terrain. Pine trees line the fairways. There is a creek that runs throughout the course that comes into play on a few holes. The course has some ponds that also can affect your shots and certainly your score if you make a bad shot. The small greens are fast and putt true.

This predominantly links-style course offers enough variety to challenge the most advanced golfer. However, some holes are traditional designs. For the most part, the terrain is flat, but some mounds can cause uneven lies. The signature hole is 16, a 430-yard, par 4, featuring waste bunkers and moguls, and requiring a well-placed approach shot to an undulating green.
