New York Golf Courses : Livingston County
Livingston County was formed from Ontario and Genesee counties on February 23, 1821 and is named in honor of Chancellor Robert R. Livingston who helped write the Declaration of Independence. After the Revolutionary War, people from New England, Maryland and Pennsylvania came to settle the Genesee River Valley bringing their knowledge of agriculture and methods of raising cattle and sheep. They built flour and grist mills on the numerous small streams and on the Genesee River. The most prominent of these settlers were the Wadsworths from Connecticut who came in 1790 to the Seneca Indian village of Big Tree, now Geneseo, the County Seat. Growth of population came with the completion of the Genesee Valley Canal, with the expansion of railroads, and with health spas which reached their height of popularity in the 1850's. Livingston County offers some of the region's most fun and adventurous outdoor activities. The beauty of the County can be seen from horseback, a hot air balloon or from the many hiking and biking trails available. For the casual walker right on up to the rugged outdoors enthusiast, Letchworth and Stony Brook State Parks have challenging trails and user friendly amenities. The Genesee Valley Greenway Trail runs north and south throughout the entire County. The trail provides miles of scenic pathways for hiking and biking. There are many challenging New York golf courses in the county. Hemlock and Conesus Lakes, as well as the many rivers and streams, also offer an endless number of activities. Whether you're looking for a relaxing boat ride or a thrilling journey down the Genesee River, Livingston County has something for everyone. Several public boat launches, marinas and cottage rentals make enjoying the area easy. Livingston County is also host to numerous special events, from airshows, to historical reenactments, drag races to craft shows, we have something for everyone.
