New York Golf Courses Monroe County Monroe County is the third largest urban area in New York State, and, in 1998 they were one of ten communities in the nation to receive the All-American-City award as a great place to live. But Rochester is also a terrific place to visit, offering plenty of experiences to relish and remember. Whether you're in the mood for museum hopping or antique shopping, cultural adventures or sporting pleasures, scenic cruising or bargain choosing, history, mystery, artistry, when you visit Rochester you'll discover an exceptional place to indulge all your senses. There are 11,000 acres of parkland in the Rochester area which provide recreational opportunities during every season of the year. Highland Park was designed by famous landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted and is the site of a beautiful Lilac Festival each May. Maplewood Park Rose Garden features stunning displays in June and September, while Ontario Beach Park beckons with its sandy beach, piers, boardwalk, and a 1905 Dentzel menagerie carousel. Tucked along the Genesee River, lovely Seneca Park was also Olmsted-designed and holds the delightful Seneca Park Zoo. You must see all the Great New York golf courses in the area. A short drive further into the Finger Lakes Region brings more scenic splendor with glacier-carved gorges, hills, streams, and landscapes filled with grape vines. Here in the heart of New York's wine country, large, corporate wineries mingle with smaller family-owned vineyards. Nearly all of them offer tours and samples for visitors. This course will challenge all skill levels. Arrowhead has been under extensive renovation and lengthening recently, and was sloped and rated in 2001.

This traditional course has excellent greens. The course is mostly hilly, but there are some level lies to be found in the center of the fairways. Originally, this facility offered a nine hole course and a five hole course. Recently both were combined and expanded into a single 18-hole par 3 course. This extremely well-manicured course plays fair. Even though the fairways are tree lined, they do afford generous landing areas. In addition, the somewhat well-bunkered greens are medium-sized. Water hazards come into play on six holes, including 11, a 383-yard, par 4, which has a large pond that must be crossed off the tee and a smaller one sitting in the landing area.

The West Course is easier and not as demanding off the tee as the East Course. The lush fairways are more forgiving, and the medium-sized greens are fast. The West Course is great for beginners. Even though there aren't any sand bunkers, there are water hazards coming into play on six holes. This course is also relatively flat, and the greens slope from back to front and roll true. Green fees for the East Course are slightly higher because it is more difficult and better maintained.

This tight and narrow course is a challenge for even the most experienced golfer. The fairways are tree lined, and the greens are small and fast. Almost all the fairways are doglegs and many of them are lined with out-of-bounds stakes.
