Ohio Golf Courses Geauga County There i nothing like jumping in the car with family, friends, or even alone, and hitting the road. Especially if that road is a beautiful, scenic, country byway leading to unique, interesting, relaxing and fun things to do. Whether its the whole family headed for an annual festival; history buffs walking the streets of historic villages; friends shopping and having lunch in Amish Country; collectors hunting for antiques, outdoor enthusiasts eager to get to the parks; children of all ages stopping by farm markets to sample produce or pet the alpacas; a couple escaping for a romantic weekend; or golfers up at the crack of dawn to play eighteen, Geauga County offers an inexpensive getaway, a pleasant journey and a chance to relieve the stress of a busy world. The name Geauga is said to have been derived from (sheauga), the Native American word meaning raccoon. You may hear the occasional reference to Geauga as (Raccoon County).

Originally part of the Western Reserve, Geauga County was established on December 31, 1805. Plans are already underway for celebrating the Geauga County Bicentennial in 2006. With a rich historical tradition and the oldest county fair in the state, Geauga County is a great destination. This year marks the 182nd Anniversary of the (Great Geauga County Fair). The county fair is a major event in the life of those who live here. Several county school systems even delay the start of the school year to allow students to take part in their 4-H events. The fair is a 5-day celebration of the agricultural heritage of the county and a great end to summer. Residents of the county even plan their vacations so they dont miss the excitement. Be sure you have your calendar marked to visit on Labor Day weekend.
