Development of the new county took place mainly in Cincinnati, which soon became a booming river town (The Queen City of the West) as Ohio River barges and steamboats brought settlers of varied national origins and industrial skills to the area. Settlers soon fanned out from the crowded riverfront area to the surrounding valleys and hilltops forming new towns of individual character, many of which later became part of Cincinnati. In the 1830s, word of the area spread as far as Europe. Subjected to religious conflicts in their homeland, many Germans immigrated, followed in the 1840s by Irish immigrants fleeing the potato famine. After the Civil War and the development of the railroads, the cities growth rate slowed. Hamilton Counties population growth since 1900, when the city contained 80 percent of the counties 409,479 people, has been mainly outside of Cincinnati. Now a tri-county hub, the area is noted for commerce, industry and a strong educational and cultural heritage. Now it is time to see the so many of Ohio golf courses in Hamilton County Ohio.

This very hilly course has small greens and very tight fairways. All the holes are well bunkered, and the fairways are lined with oak trees. There is water that comes into play on two holes. This club was originally founded in 1895 and has been listed by the USGA as one of the first 100 clubs established in the U.S. It was also recognized by (GOLF Magazine) list of the (First 100 Clubs in America). One of the many great Ohio golf courses, that are in Hamilton County.

This club opened a new clubhouse and a back nine in 1997. The course, built on somewhat flat terrain, is easy to walk. Since the course was built with the Scottish links-style in mind, the fairways are typically wide open, but they are bordered by a standard cut of rough. Only one fairway is tree lined, and the average-sized greens are slightly sloped. This is not a typical layout for the many Ohio golf courses.

(Golf Digest) rated this as the 14th Best in State course for 1995-96, and 11th best in 1997-98. (GOLFWEEK) named it 44th among Americas 100 Best Modern Courses in 1997, 55th in 1998 and 65th in 1999. The club hosted a U.S. Open qualifier in 1986 and the U.S. Amateur in 1993. This is one of the Ohio golf courses that you definitely want to play at least once.

This facility has an eighteen hole regulation course and a nine hole course. The Glenview Course, originally designed by Arthur Hills in 1970, was redesigned by Mike Hurdzan and re-opened for play in June 1994. During the process of the courses redesign, nine new holes were added. Today, the Glenview Course features gently rolling terrain, which is typical of Ohio golf courses, which places a premium on shot accuracy off the tee. The greens are heavily undulating and challenging to read. Demanding water hazards come into play on five holes. The signature hole is 16, a 215-yard, par 3, requiring a tee shot over water to the green. The East Course has water coming into play on two holes. The most difficult hole is 3, a 225-yard, par 3, requiring a straightaway tee shot. These are two of the seven Cincinnati municipal courses.

Many of the fairways on this course are lined by out-of-bounds stakes. The course was built at two separate elevations. The bottom level was built in a river basin, while the upper level plays through the hills. The par 3s are difficult. Hole 7, a 203-yard, par 3, is very scenic and calls for a tee shot that will drop ninety-five feet to the fairway below. The greens are small and water hazards come into play on two holes. This course is owned by the local gas and electric company.

This is an extremely difficult regulation course with tree-lined fairways which are bordered by a multiple cut of rough. The terrain is hilly, so you can expect many uneven lies. The medium to small-sized greens are undulating and fast. Donald Ross helped redesign some of the holes. The signature hole is 6, a 458-yard, par 4, requiring a tee shot down a fairway that is lined by out-of-bounds stakes on the entire left side, then an approach shot to a well-bunkered green. The club annually hosts a U.S. Open qualifier. This is one of the nicer Ohio golf courses in Hamilton County.

Wide, friendly fairways greet players at Reeves, whose traditional layout and small, elevated greens add some challenge to every part of your game. The Regulation Course is easy to walk and has some par 4s that measure over 400 yards. This is the 3rd busiest course in the Cincinnati area with about 85,000 rounds played per year. The Par 3 Course is a good place for working on your short game. Ladies tee off from the same set of tees as the men on the Par 3 Course.

The course design features three par 5s, three par 4s, and three par 3s. A creek flows through five holes, plus numerous sand bunkers come into play on some fairways but mainly around the greens. Locals claim that hole 2, a 464-yard, par 4, is one of the most difficult holes in the Cincinnati area. There are additional sets of tees that can be used when playing an eighteen hole round.
