The County was formed by an Act of the Ohio General Assembly on March 1, 1818. Hocking County derived its name from the Indian word (Hock-ing) which means (a bottle). The Hocking River flows through the County, which was once claimed by the Wyandot Indians. The elected three-member Board of County Commissioners acts as both the legislative and executive branch of the County. Each Commissioner serves a term of four years. In addition to the County Auditor, who serves as the chief fiscal officer, there are seven elected administrative officials who operate independently as set forth by Ohio law. These officials are: Clerk of Courts, Coroner, Engineer, Prosecuting Attorney, Recorder, Sheriff, and Treasurer. All of these officials serve four-year terms. There are also several judges including: Municipal Court, Common Pleas Court, and Probate/Juvenile Court. Their terms vary according to their respective offices. This is one of the traditional Ohio courses features White pine trees lining its fairways and surrounding its small greens. The terrain varies in undulation, and water hazards come into play on a few holes. The club personnel suggests, since this is a semi-private club, that you call the pro shop for the time periods when the public is allowed to play the course. This is another of the many Ohio golf courses that try to stay open all year.

This is one of the many scenic Ohio golf courses is so hilly that there are not any flat lies in the fairways. Some of the fairways are tree lined, and all of them are defined by a standard cut of rough. Water comes into play. The greens are reasonably large and undulating. The Hocking River borders the course, but it doesn't come into play. There is an additional men's tee that can be used when playing an eighteen hole round.
