This course, which is nestled along the Olentangy River, has a mixture of terrain that ranges from hilly to flat and rolling like so many Ohio golf courses. The front nine is more open than the back nine and has several sand bunkers in the design. The back nine is tighter with a lot of trees and water, but no bunkers. Water hazards (ponds and a creek) come into play on at least six holes in all. Shot accuracy is essential because many holes are bordered by out-of-bounds stakes. This courses back nine was added in 1972.

This course, built on predominantly flat terrain which is unusual for Ohio golf courses, provides some mounding that can cause uneven lies. In addition, some of the average-sized and sloped greens are elevated. All the fairways are defined by a standard cut of rough, and six of them are tree lined. Sand bunkers come into play on a number of fairways and around most of the greens. The final four finishing holes are highlighted by a creek flowing through the center of the fairways. The signature hole is 18, a 421-yard, par 4, requiring a tee shot of at least 200 yards in order to carry the creek, then an uphill approach shot to an elevated green.

This courses front nine is narrower than its back nine. The terrain is flat, so it is not too difficult to walk. The tree-lined fairways are well bunkered, and water hazards come into play on four holes. The greens are medium-sized, fairly flat and range from slow to fast in speed, depending on the weather conditions. The majority of greens are well bunkered. This is one of the many Ohio golf courses that attempt to stay open all year.
