The lands on which Pike County now sits were first occupied by the Mound Builder culture. Several burial mounds can be seen in Pike County, the most prominent being the one located in Mound Cemetery near Piketon. At the time of the first Europeans in the area, the Shawnee Indian tribe made their homes in southern Ohio. Pike County was created by the Ohio General Assembly January 1, 1815, and was organized in February of that year. The present boundary of Pike County was once portions of Ross, Scioto, and Jackson Counties, with nearly two-thirds coming from Ross. The Ohio-Erie Canal, the Civil War, the Great Depression, and the Atomic Age have all left marks on Pike County. A scenic afternoon drive can take visitors past historic sites ranging from the Governor Lucas Mansion, to the 1797 Eager Inn, to the states Most Perfect Tree. In season recreational activities include skiing at Spicy Run Mountain boating and swimming at Lake White and Pike Lake State Parks, golfing on championship Ohio golf courses, and great hunting and fishing areas.

This course is located in the country, features tree-lined fairways that are narrow. The greens are medium-sized and fast. Ponds come into play on several holes, including on 5, a 465-yard, par 4, which dares you to cut the corner on the dogleg left fairway and carry your shot over water to the well-bunkered green. Short hitters have the option of going the long way, but forget about making a birdie if you do. This is one of the many Ohio golf courses that try to stay open all year.

Ohio Golf Courses Comments:
This is a well-maintained course with a variety of different size greens. The course has four ponds that come into play on six holes. The fairways were built on rolling terrain which is so typical of Ohio golf courses and heavily wooded on the perimeter. There are some fairway bunkers, and a defined cut of rough borders all the holes.
