Ohio Golf Courses : Putnam County
Putnam County was carved out of the old Indian territory in 1820. It is named in honor of General Isreal Putnam, a native of Massachusetts and a prominent early military man. Some Indians still remained in the area after the white settlers, which included Germans and Swiss, moved into Ottawa. The county seat is the site of an ancient Indian village, Tawa Town, from which it takes its name. Forces of migrant Mexicans and Texans of Spanish descent harvest the vast fruit and vegetables crops in the county. Main industries are; machinery, food, printing and publishing, lumber, metals, kitchen cabinets, animal feeds, sugar, television tubes, cattle, calves, soybeans, poultry, eggs and wheat. Ohio Golf Courses Comments:
This course, which expanded to eighteen holes in 1997, was built on rolling terrain. A creek comes into play on five holes and ponds come into play on six others. In addition, there are approximately sixteen greenside sand bunkers that have been well positioned throughout the courses design. The signature hole is 14, a 169-yard, par 3, which features out-of-bounds on the left and a creek on the right, leaving no room for error. This is another of the many Ohio golf courses that try to stay open all year.
