Ohio Golf Courses : Ross County
Ross County was formed on August 20, 1798 by proclamation of Arthur St. Clair, Governor of the Northwest Territory. It included a large part of what is now the State of Ohio. The establishment of Franklin County and the later organization of other counties reduced Ross County’s huge size in 1803. Ross County was named for James Ross of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, a close friend of Governor St. Clair, although many thought it should be named after Nathaniel Massie who surveyed the area. In 1800, the capital of the Northwest Territory was moved to Chillicothe, the present county seat.
Chillicothe also served as the first capital of the State of Ohio from 1803 until 1816, except for an interval from late 1809 to 1812 when the state legislature met in Zanesville. In 1817, the state capital moved 40 miles north of Chillicothe to Columbus, the states present capital city, because it was more centrally located. Today, in addition to Chillicothe, Ross County encompasses sixteen townships and six villages. The County includes 687 square miles, the second largest in the state, and has a population of 75,731
according to the Federal Census Bureau. Ross County ranks 34th in population among the 88 counties in the state of Ohio. The Government of Ross County employs 546 people who provide various County services. These services include legislative and executive, judicial, public safety, public works, health, human services, economic development, and other County services. Ohio Golf Courses Comments:
This course was built on the side of a large hill, so expect many uneven lies. The fairways are tree lined, and the greens are medium in size and speed. There are additional sets of tees that can be used when playing an eighteen hole round. This is another of the many Ohio golf courses that try to stay open all year.

Ohio Golf Courses Comments:
This wooded course has ponds coming into play on at least four separate occasions. The narrow and tree-lined fairways were built on hilly terrain which is so typical of Ohio golf courses, so expect some uneven lies. The greens are small, undulating, very fast, and difficult to read.

This flat course has tree-lined fairways, but they still afford generous landing areas. Water hazards come into play on at least seven holes. The course is well-bunkered, and the greens are of average size and speed, depending on the weather conditions. This is another of the many Ohio golf courses that try to stay open all year.

Ohio Golf Courses Comments:
This facility has three nine hole courses that are played in three eighteen hole combinations, plus an eighteen hole par 3 course. The Blue Course actually has ten holes and no measured forward tees for ladies. Therefore, the yardage indicated for any Blue Course combination is taken from the men’s regular tees on the Blue Course and the ladies tee from the other course. The extra hole on the Blue Course (10) is a 150-yard, par 3. The club has their own rendition of Augusta's (Amen Corner). All three regulation courses play similar to each other. The fairways are plush, and the greens are well-maintained. There are sand bunkers on all three courses, and one water hazard can come into play on three holes. The Par 3 Course is an excellent place to let your children play while your tackling the regulation courses. This is another of the many Ohio golf courses that try to stay open all year.
Valley Vista Golf Course

Ohio Golf Courses Comments:
This short course is deceiving because shot accuracy is vital. Several rolling hills will cause uneven lies, creating difficult approach shots. In addition, water hazards come into play on holes 6 and 9. There is an additional set of men's tees that can be used when playing an eighteen hole round. This is another of the many Ohio golf courses that try to stay open all year.
