Pennsylvania Golf Courses Franklin County Created on September 9, 1784 from part of Cumberland County and named for Benjamin Franklin. Benjamin Chambers, for whom it was named, founded Chambersburg, the county seat, in 1764. It was incorporated as a borough on March 21, 1803. Benjamin Chambers’s settlement in 1730 was the first permanent settler community. The lower Cumberland Valley was included in a purchase from the Indians in October 1736, but this was the scene of heavy Indian fighting in the period 1756 to 1763. From 1837 on, the Cumberland Valley Railroad gave the county marketing opportunities. Franklin has always had an agricultural base, but its early iron furnaces lost out to competition elsewhere. Paper, lumber, and crushed stone, however, were successfully produced. The Confederate Army twice captured Chambersburg, and the second time, in July 1864, they burned it. In 1920, Franklin was the state’s seventh ranked agricultural producer, and in 1992 it was fourth in receipts from livestock and tenth in crops. Dairying is especially successful. Farms cover 51.6 percent of the land. Let’s see the Pennsylvania golf courses in Franklin County.

Pennsylvania Golf Courses Comments:
This club has two regulation eighteen hole courses, Founders and Iron Forge. The Founders Course includes large greens and water hazards that come into play on five holes. The course is located at the foot of the mountains, so expect some uneven lies on the fairways, as well as spectacular views. The newer Iron Forge Course is located on rolling terrain where old apple orchards and pear trees once grew. Although this course has few trees, the fairways are tight and some are dogleg configurations. All of the greens are two-tiered, and sand bunkers and water hazards come into play on nearly every hole.

Pennsylvania Golf Courses Comments:
This (easy to walk) course doesn't feature water hazards or require blind shots. The wide fairways only feature a scattering of trees that can alter your shots, plus the medium-sized greens are hard to read. There are additional tees that can be used when playing an eighteen hole round.

Pennsylvania Golf Courses Comments:
This course is located in the mountains, but the terrain is fairly flat. The perimeter of the course is extremely wooded. The only hazards, other than dogleg fairways are the large trees that can alter your shots. The greens are well-maintained.

Pennsylvania Golf Courses Comments:
This tight course was built on predominantly flat terrain, but there is some mounding which can cause uneven lies. Water hazards come into play on three holes. The large greens are average speed and undulating, and the tree-lined fairways are bordered by a standard cut of rough.

Waynesboro Municipal Golf Course

Address:
150 Cemetery Ave
Waynesboro, PA 17268

Phone: 717-762-3734
Holes: 9
Par: 72
Rating: 70.4
Slope: 98
Status: Public
Season: Open All Year

Pennsylvania Golf Courses Comments:
This course was built on rolling hills and features grass bunkers positioned on every hole. In addition, there are a few sand bunkers on the course. The greens are medium speed and sloped, and the fairways are mostly wide open with the exception of a few narrow holes. One of the nice features on this course are its three extra greens. These extra greens come into play on holes 6, 8, and 9, so when you play the course for a second time you may hit to different greens on these holes.
