Virginia Golf Courses Fairfax County In the center of the Washington tourism experience, Fairfax County enjoys immediate proximity to Washington D.C., its night life and national monuments and museums, to its east, and Dulles Airport, the National Air and Space Museum Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, Virginia Wine Country, and Virginia Horse Country to the west. But Fairfax County also has a unique history all its own. In many ways the recorded history of Fairfax County, Virginia is a reflection of the history of the United States. This club has three nine hole courses that are played in three eighteen hole combinations. All three of the nines play basically the same with the Blue Course being a bit more challenging due to the hilly terrain. The fairways are generous, and the greens are medium in speed and size, with some undulation. There are water hazards that come into play on some holes.

This course is very picturesque and challenging with numerous mature trees and sections of the Potomac River bordering some holes. The course features tree-lined fairways. The signature hole is 9, a 228-yard, par 3, requiring a long, accurate tee shot to a green framed by out-of-bounds stakes. Water hazards come into play on a few holes.

This par 3 course offers a wooded setting that is ideal for the beginning golfer. The back nine fairways are narrow and tree lined, while the front nine fairways are wide open. There is a lake that comes into play on two holes, including 2, a 147-yard, par 3, requiring a carry over water to the green.

This excellent par 3 course has sand bunkers spread throughout its design and water hazards coming into play on six holes. The large greens are undulating and fast, plus the course restricts the wearing of metal-spiked golf shoes in order to keep them plush. This is an excellent course for beginning golfers, or experienced ones who wish to work on their short game.

This club has two regulation eighteen hole courses. These courses were built on hilly terrain and have narrow fairways lined with many trees that can affect your shots. There is a slight slant to the terrain on many holes, so your tee shot can bounce into trouble if your shot isn't hit correctly. The small greens are slightly sloped, medium speed, and one of them is double-tiered. There are a water hazard in play on one hole and gorges you must cross over on another two holes. The signature hole is 2 on the Woodlawn Course, a downhill 324-yard, par 4, with two fairways to choose from for approaching the green protected by two large sand bunkers.

This course was built on hilly, wooded terrain. The fairways, which are all lined with beautiful mature oak and sycamore trees, are fairly tight. Accuracy is a premium because of the shortness of the course. The greens are well-maintained and amply bunkered. The signature hole is 5, a 422-yard, par 5, which plays downhill. This hole is very picturesque and features a dogleg left fairway that plays around a lake. The green is well-guarded by bunkers.

This is an exclusive course where reciprocal players must have their own head pro make contact with this course's head pro in order to make a tee time. The width of the fairways are moderate and they are bordered by a standard cut of rough. The majority of the holes are tree lined, and some of the greens and tees are elevated. The fast greens vary in size and undulation. The signature hole is 7, a 440-yard, par 4, requiring a tee shot over water, then an approach shot up to an elevated green.

This nine hole par 3 course is a surprising challenge. The greens are hilly, sloped and ample in size, averaging approximately 6,000-square-feet. There is a mixture of open and tree-lined fairways. Those that are tree lined feature mature oak, poplar and locust trees. The signature hole is 8, a 135-yard, par 3, which requires a tee shot over a water hazard onto a small, bunkered green. To add further challenge, the prevailing wind blows directly into the face of the golfers as they tee off.

This course was designed to have a friendly appearance, but don't be fooled, it can be very challenging for any golfer. Most holes have tight fairways and plenty of sand bunkers guarding the greens. Six holes have water hazards in play. Although there is no specific signature hole, the favorite is 18, a 396-yard, par 4, which slopes down to the right with water creeping all the way up the fairway to a green that is guarded by a right-front sand bunker.

This facility offers two eighteen hole courses, the Lakes Course and the Oaks Course. The newer Oaks Course differs from the Lakes Course in that it has much less water and trees. One of the more interesting holes on this course is 2, a 468-yard, par 4, which requires a carry over water of approximately 200 yards. To add further challenge to this hole, there is a sand bunker right behind the pond. Golfers have the option of playing it safe to the right or carrying both hazards on the fly. The original Lakes Course has generous landing areas in the fairways, but there is a thick cut of rough and some tree lines that can affect your shots. Water hazards come into play on five holes on this course. The large greens are slightly sloped and their speeds are determined by the seasonal weather conditions.

This nine hole par 3 course is a links-style design with greens that vary in size and design. The layout also includes wide-open fairways and water comes in play on five holes. Hole 2 has an island green, 3 features a large pond that fronts the green, #4 has a green that's guarded on the backside by a lake, the green on 6 is also backed by a lake, #8 has a water hazard on the right side of the green, and 9 offers a lake to the right of the green.

Winding through wooded areas and over rolling hills, this course was designed to take full advantage of its natural surroundings. Historical landmarks are incorporated into the layout, including a Civil War gravesite alongside the fairway on hole 13. Generous, gently contoured fairways are the perfect compliment to the fast, heavily-undulating greens. The signature hole is 3, a 197-yard, par 3. From the slightly elevated tee, this hole plays to an inverted (L-shaped) green, protected by water in front and on the left. With multiple tees on each hole, this course will present a challenge to golfers of all abilities.
